Day 2: Home Prompt

I know I’m still a couple of days behind on my challenge, but I’m still determined to continue on!

2.  What place do you consider your home?

I decided to really stretch this particular prompt and challenged myself to write a villanelle, which is a 19-line poem with a specific alternating rhyme scheme. I’ll probably write a Poetry 101 post about this form eventually since I think it’s neat.

Searching For My Home

I’m currently searching for my home
And I know it’s a long road ahead
But for now it is okay to roam

With all this travel, I feel alone
All meaning of “grounded” has been shred
I’m currently searching for my home

I need more patience. I need to grow.
Such uncertainty fills me with dread
I need to know it’s okay to roam

Apartment listings, all things unknown
I just want a place to rest my head
I’m currently searching for my home

Until I land, all plans feel postponed
Still I cannot leave these words unsaid
“Remember that it’s okay to roam.”

Though sometimes I spin like a cyclone
Learning it will work out in the end
I’m currently searching for my home
But for now it is okay to roam

Ta-da! Like all poems for this challenge, it’s still in a draft stage and I’ll probably clean it up eventually and publish a completely revised draft, but for the purposes of this month, I kinda like it. What do you think?
